1. The First Woman

(a) Vocabulary:

another complain enjoyed mate
ashamed complained happier so
asleep complaint lonely while

(b) Text:

Adam was alone because there were no other humans. There were many animals. The animals were not alone. The animals all had their mates. Every animal had his mate. The birds all had their mates. Every bird had his mate. Adam had no mate.

Adam did not complain because he was alone. He made no complaint. He was alone. But he was not sad. He had never had a human friend. He was not sad and he did not complain. He did not feel lonely because God talked to him. God was with him, and he did not feel lonely. God was different from him, but God was kind to him. Adam did not know that he would feel happier if he had a human friend. Only God knew that Adam would feel happier if he had a human friend. God loved Adam, and he wanted to make Adam happier. God had a plan. God had a plan for a long time to come.

God put Adam to sleep. Adam went to sleep. While Adam was asleep, God took a bone from Adam's body. He did not take the bone from the body of an animal. He took the bone from the body of the man, and used it to make another human being. With the bone from Adam's body God made a woman. She was the first woman on earth. She was a human being with a soul. She was not like the animals. She was not like the birds. She was not like the fish. She was like Adam. God used dust to make the first man. He used the bone of the first man to make the first woman.

Adam was not long sleeping. God brought the woman to him. Adam looked up and saw the woman. For the first time he saw another human being. Now Adam was not sleeping! He talked to the woman. When he saw her he was happy. They laughed. They talked. They listened to the birds. They looked at the trees. They worked in the garden. They never complained. They enjoyed their life.

The man and the woman did no wrong, so they were never ashamed. Adam never made the woman feel ashamed. He was kind to her. He said, "God gave me this woman." He was happier than ever before. The man and the woman loved one another and they obeyed God and were happy. They were good, so they were happy. They did no wrong so they were never ashamed. Were they always happy? Look out for the answer.

2. The First Husband and Wife

(a) Vocabulary:

as flesh please strong
cold help rest stronger
each helped rested think
dust

(b) Text:

God made a woman. He made the woman from the bone of the man. Now Adam had a mate. Before God made the woman Adam was alone. Now he was not alone. He was happier than ever before.

Adam named the woman. He called her Eve. He gave her the name of Eve. She was the first woman. Adam said, "She's my flesh. She's my bone and my flesh." Eve was the flesh of the man, not the flesh of the animals.

God gave the woman to the man to be his wife. Eve was Adam's wife. Adam was the husband of Eve. He was her husband. They were husband and wife and they lived together.

Adam was strong. He was stronger than Eve. He was stronger than Eve, but he did not hurt her. He was gentle. He was gentle because he loved her and wanted to please her. She wanted to please him. They wanted to please each other.

Eve was a help to Adam. When he worked, she helped him. The husband was kind to his wife, and the wife helped her husband.

God said, "You are husband and wife. You must stay together. You are one flesh." God said they must not go away from each other. God said husband and wife were one flesh, so they must stay together. Adam and Eve were happy to obey God. They worked together in the garden. They had no clothes. They did not need clothes, as it was never cold in the garden. They did not feel cold. They did nothing wrong and they thought nothing wrong so they did not feel ashamed. They loved each other, and thought about each other. When we love people we think about them. Adam and Eve thought about each other. They also thought about God. Together they heard the voice of God. God talked to them, and they were happy to listen to what he said. When the work of the day was over they had rest. They rested after the day's work, and they listened to the voice of God. They saw the moon and the stars in the sky. Their sleep was happy. Every day and every night they enjoyed being alive. Why are people not always happy now? Were the first man and the first woman always happy? Look out for the answer.

3. How Eve Was Tempted

(a) Vocabulary:

among *colour eye near
asked deceive its snake
clever evil laugh tempted

* color (American Spelling)

(b) Text:

In the garden was a snake. It was very beautiful. The snake was beautiful and it was clever. It was very clever. It was clever to harm, not clever to help.

The other animals did nothing evil. The man and the woman did nothing evil. Only the snake did what was evil, and it was very clever.

The woman Eve walked among the trees. She worked in the garden among the trees. She looked at a bird. She liked the colour of the bird. There were birds of many colours in the garden. She liked the colours of the birds. She called Adam to look at them. "Adam, look at the beautiful birds," she said. She wanted Adam to enjoy what she enjoyed. They laughed together as they saw the birds fly and heard them sing.

Eve walked on. She looked for some fruit to eat. The snake came near. The snake wanted to harm her, so the snake came near. It had a plan to deceive her. Adam did not want to deceive her. God did not want to deceive her. Only the snake wanted to deceive her.

Eve saw the snake. She liked its beautiful colours. The snake talked to her. It asked her if God had told her not to eat the fruit from the trees.

"May you eat fruit from all the trees?" the snake asked the woman.

"We may eat from all the trees but one," Eve said. "God said we must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. We'll die if we eat that fruit."

The snake laughed. It was an evil laugh. "You'll not die if you eat from that tree," the snake said. "God knows that the fruit from that tree will make you clever. You'll be as clever as God if you eat that fruit."

Eve listened. She looked at the fruit. The colour caught her eye. She liked what her eyes saw. With her eyes she looked, and with her mind she thought. She thought she would like to taste the fruit. Eve was tempted. The snake's words also tempted her - "If you eat the fruit you'll be as clever as God."

Eve put out her hand to touch the fruit. Did she eat the fruit? Look out for the answer.

4. Why Adam and Eve were Afraid

(a) Vocabulary:

ate devil hid too
been disobey leaves use
cover disobeyed or won't

(b) Text:

The snake and the woman were in the garden. They were by the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The snake spoke to the woman. The woman, Eve, listened when the snake spoke to her.

"Has God said you will die if you eat the fruit from this tree?" the snake asked. "You won't die!" The snake wanted the woman to disobey God. The devil was in that snake. Eve did not know that the devil was in that snake. She only saw that the snake was beautiful.

She looked at the tree. She put out her hand to touch the fruit. She wanted to taste it, and she wanted to be clever.

Eve ate the fruit. She disobeyed God and ate the fruit. She called to Adam. "Adam," she said, "come and have some fruit." She gave the fruit to Adam to eat. She wanted Adam to be clever, too.

Adam looked at the fruit and he looked at Eve. He took the fruit. He ate it. Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate the fruit. They had never before disobeyed God. God had said they would die if they ate that fruit. Now they had eaten that fruit. They looked at each other.

Would they die? What would it feel like to die?

They began to feel different. Eve saw a different look in Adam's eyes. She began to feel ashamed when he looked at her. They began to feel ashamed because they could not cover their bodies.

They began to feel worried. Adam was worried. Eve was worried. They were worried because they had no clothes. They had no clothes to cover their bodies. Because they were worried they began to feel angry. They began to feel angry with each other. They felt ashamed and worried and angry.

Then they thought of a plan. They saw the leaves on the trees. They would use the leaves to cover their bodies! They made clothes out of the leaves. They felt better when their bodies were covered with the leaves.

Then they heard a voice. It was the voice of God. Suddenly they were afraid. They had never before been afraid of God. They had been happy when he spoke to them. Now they were afraid. They hid in the trees. They hid from God. They hid because they were afraid.

Before they disobeyed God they had never been ashamed. They had never felt worried, or been angry. They had never been afraid. Now they were afraid and they hid in the trees. What happened when they hid from God? Look out for the answer.

5. Who Was to Blame?

(a) Vocabulary:

ask deceived kill sinned
blame excuse naked spoil
blamed hated sin spoiled

(b) Text:

Adam and Eve were afraid. They hid when they heard God's voice. God called, "Where are you?" He wanted them to tell him where they were.

Adam said, "I heard your voice and I was afraid."

God asked, "Why were you afraid?" God knew why they were afraid. He did not ask them because he did not know. He asked them because he wanted them to confess. He wanted them to confess that they had done wrong. They did not want to confess.

Adam said, "I'm naked." God said,

"You are naked? Who told you that you are naked?" Adam was afraid to answer. God asked another question. "Have you eaten the fruit I told you not to eat?"

Adam did not want to take the blame. He did not want to be blamed. He said, "The woman you gave me took the fruit, and gave it to me to eat." He put the blame on the woman.

"What have you done?" God said to Eve. Eve made an excuse. She said, "The snake deceived me, and I ate the fruit." That was the excuse she made.

When people have done wrong they do not want to confess. They do not want to take the blame. They make excuses. Excuses do not deceive God. He knew the man and the woman had disobeyed him. He also knew that the devil was in the snake. The devil hated God. The devil in the snake hated God.

God looked at the snake. God knew that the devil hated everything good. The devil wanted to spoil the good things God had made. The devil always wants to spoil and to kill. The devil wanted to spoil and to kill, but the devil did not want to be caught. The devil does not want God to catch him, because God is too strong for him. The devil was afraid when God looked at the snake.

God looked at the man and the woman. He had made them good, but now they had been spoiled. Sin had come into them. Before they ate the fruit they had no sin. Now sin was in them. They had sinned. They had disobeyed God. Before they sinned they were happy. Now they were not happy. They were afraid when God looked at them. What would happen to them? Look out for the answer.

6. God Has a Plan

(a) Vocabulary:

back death hard suffered
born easy save themselves
bring fear sorrow to-day

(b) Text:

Adam and Eve were afraid. They had disobeyed God and let sin in. For the first time they knew fear. Their minds were full of fear. What would happen to them?

God told them what would happen. They would suffer. They would suffer in their bodies. They would have sorrow. Sorrow would make them sad. They would suffer in their bodies and in their minds.

They would also have to work hard to get food. It would be hard to get food. In the garden it was easy to get food. Life had been easy and happy in the garden. Now they must go from the garden. They would not stay in the garden. God said they could not live in the garden now that they had sinned.

Adam and Eve had to suffer and they had to die. From that time everyone has had to suffer and die, because everyone has sin. Sin came into the world when the first man and woman disobeyed God.

Sin sends people away from God. God was sad because people have gone away from Him. He wanted to save them. God wanted to save people from sin and death. He knew that they could not save themselves. He had a plan to save them.

He sent his only Son to save them. The name of his Son was Jesus. Jesus was born into the world as a man. Everyone who is born into the world has sinned. Jesus was different. Jesus had no sin. He is the only man who has never sinned. When he was nailed to the cross, he suffered and died. He suffered and died for the sins of other people.

Jesus died but he came to life again. He is alive to-day. When we are sad that we have done wrong, we can ask Jesus to forgive us. If we ask him to forgive us, he will hear us. He will forgive us and bring us back to God. "This is God's plan," said Jesus. "God wants people to come back to him. I'm the One to bring them back. I can forgive them and bring them back to God. I'm the One to bring them back. This is God's plan"
